What are the things scattered through your day at work that you just look forward to?
For me… I would have to say:
Reading my RSS feeds while simultaneously doing what I get paid to do. I have a very specific system for what order I read things in, and I usually get done with each section at about the same point during each day. If I get thrown off one day because of a change in my schedule… the rest of my week could be completely derailed!
I also look forward to drinking a cup of coffee during the first half of the day.
Usually at some point during the afternoon, I will enjoy and afternoon snack (snack of choice is definitely a Sweet & Salty Peanut Granola Bar… those things are like crack for me).
But, one of the things that puts a smile on my face and makes me happy about humanity is when our mails gets delivered/picked up.
Wierd… I know.
Our Postman is like the coolest guy ever.
You can always hear him from about 50 yards away as he gets closer and closer to our building, because he whistles.
That’s right… HE WHISTLES!!
He whistles while he works.
It’s like the beginning of the Andy Griffith Show every day at about 9:45am.
I really feel like I should be carrying an old fishing pole, wearing a oversized, floppy hat and saying “Hiddy ho!” when he walks through our door.
He not only walks in and makes the mail exchange, but he usually stands around for a minute or two and talks to us about gardening or his family or our weekends or the weather.
AND… the best part… throughout the year, this guy grows his white beard out and for the entire month of December he dresses like Santa!!
I tell ya… if more postmen were like this guy… I would probably give up e-mail altogether and go back to the good-ole days.
I love the little things that get us through the day.

how has no one commented on this?
i have sooo many things that get me through the day, but I’ll spare you and attempt to be brief.
*oatmeal*–I make oatmeal at work every morning at exactly 8:23a.m. in order to be perfectly hot while I read mi biblia and pray until the office opens at 9a.m.
*visitor emails*–I am in charge of sending out an office wide email at 10:30 a.m. containing information about that day’s visitors. From 9-10:30 My heart jumps everytime one of our staff sends me visitor info to compile:)
*Post Man*–ahhh the postman. I agree, postmen are just too cool. Mr. postman comes to my office at around 1…when I am quiet and consumed with emailing or writing my to-do list, he stops and looks straight into my eyes, because he knows. He knows that I am avoiding eye contact because we have a ridiculously large shipment in the mail room…:) He never recognizes me when I wear my glasses and always asks me if I did my taxes.
*Maria*–Maria is one of our fabulous cleaning staff. She walks through the door every day around 2 and stops just long enough to catch my eye and says “hi”–to which i always over zealously exclaim “HI MARIA! COMO ESTAS??” She then brightens my day with the biggest smile ever as she gracefully and silently continues walking down the hall. 20 minutes later as she is leaving she never fails to look back at me just before the door closes and softly reply, “bien”. (Maria is from El Salvador and I want her to be my best friend…)
*afternoon snack*–ahhh i live for this. at around 2 my stomach starts to growl again…frozen yogurt is my favorite afternoon snack. I put my regular yogurt in the freezer right after lunch so it is sort of frozen but still creamy at 2–this is wonderful bc it makes you feel like you are eating ice cream! Diet Coke helps to get me through the day too
*UPS Man*–Now, this guy is super cool and very suave. He and I are good friends. Dressed in brown from head to toe, of course, he comes in our office twice a day. He always busts in the office door and says in a booming voice, “Alright now, Emily–how bad is it today?” One day a week he takes vacation, but I never know what day. I have to say I try to guess in my head every morning if today is the day he took vaca….then I’m seriously disappointed when another dressed in brown gentleman comes in the office…
ok, i’m starting to realize that the things that get me through the day are people and food–ha–those two definitely accurately describe me!
hope all is well in college station–i’ll see yall in 3 days!!!

wow, that was not brief at all.
What a thorough representation of your day, Emily! I think it’s pretty fun to have a set method that I do every day. Although mine isn’t quite as defined as yours.
Follow up to Mr. Postman: yesterday he came down the sidewalk singing “Zippidy do-dah”. This guy kills me!
We’re pumped about seeing you in a few days!!
